K9

Unit Overview

The East Pennsboro Township Police Department established its K9 Program in 2004 to enhance the department’s law enforcement capabilities and provide additional resources for public safety. Since its inception, the program has continued to serve the Township through the specialized training and teamwork of dedicated police officers and their K9 partners.

The department is currently operating its third K9 team, consisting of Officer Helwig and his K9 partner, Maarten, a 6-year-old Dutch Shepherd. The team is trained in both patrol and narcotics-related functions, providing valuable assistance during criminal investigations, searches, and other police operations.
